THE TWO OF US

[In a time of stillness]

I had a dream last night. I was caught up in a sunset on a mountain top, and there were clouds all around me. All I could perceive was a myriad of unfathomable colors embracing me and filling every empty space. I was trying to tell the people I was with to admire it with me. I was trying to explain the kind of beauty I was seeing, even though we were all looking at the same thing. I was trying to get them to just stop and stare for a moment. I kept telling them they were going to miss it.

When I woke up, I realized it wasn’t about a sunset. It was about You.

Some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen have been in my dreams. It’s one of the many ways You meet me. You show me a sunset, and then You show me Your incomparable glory. 

Maybe this is intimacy.

Maybe sometimes, there are things that You show me for just us two to enjoy. 

“Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.”
